Note* | He The Curry family came from Scotland, but as Covenanters they left and went to Ireland to avoid trouble, settling near Port Arlington in Co. Antrim. Ephraim was born in 1756. He and his brothers James and Robert, but not William, had been in the British Navy. Their father was murdered during religious strife. Ephraim and James immigrated to Cooksburg, Albany Co., New York. When the American Revolutionary War broke out, he joined Jessup's Loyal Rangers as a sergeant. He and David Hunter were both in Capt. William Fraser's 6th Company. He was 5 ft., 7 in. tall. He was also with George Bolton at Ballstown. As a United Empire Loyalist he was allotted Lot 21, Concession II, Edwardsburg Twp., where he settled by 1785 with his mother. He married Elsea (Alice) Bolton on March 20, 1787. In 1803 he was a captain in the Grenville Militia. The 1804 census described his farm as having 40 acres cultivated and 110 acres uncultivated. |
