Note* | | He Montrose Democrat 7-7-1864 "Miss Mary Shelp: I am under the painful necessity of informing you of the death of your brother John Shelp. He was killed on the morning of the 3rd in a charge made by our Regiment. He was a good soldier and was always foremost in the ranks and in the time of an engagement was a person that could be depended upon. You have my sympathy for the loss of an attached and affectionate brother. I found a watch on his body and still have it in my possession. Your father , Henry Shelp, was slightly wounded on the 24th of last month, and is now in one of the Northern hospitals. Very respectfully, Frank M. Acton, Capt. Co F 12th NJ Vols.
