Note*7 December 1946 For 16 years a resident of Sudbury, Mrs. Elizabeth Dean of 134 Pine Street, celebrated her 92nd birthday on Saturday with neighbors and friends gathering to extend greetings and well wished to the aged Nickel City resident. A native of Shawville, Quebec, and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Prendergast, Mrs. Dean was born 1854. She is the only member of her immediate family surviving. In 1873 she married the late George Dean of Haley Station. The couple settled for a time in Bar Line, later moving to Douglas, Ont. where the late Mr. Dean was associated with the Knight and Smith Lumber Company. It was at Douglas that Mrs. Dean brought up and cared for her family of nine. Always an exceptional housewife and mother, she was in demand for miles around the countryside whenever a neighbor's child was ill. Mrs. Dean was always the person who knew just what to do and her skill in nursing brought great comfort to isolated families in the farming and lumbering community. In 1905 the family moved from Douglas to Sault Saint Marie where they remained until 1921 when they went West to Griffin, Saskatchewan. They remained in the Western community until Mr. Dean's death in 1931. By this time many of the family had moved and made their own homes and Mrs. Dean came to Sudbury to live with her daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cressey, of Pine Street. The aged woman, in good health and active, is very proud of the fact that she has 49 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. A devout Baptist, the aged resident has given up most of her activities in the church. Saturday afternoon was an Open House at the Cressey home, in honor of Mrs. Dean's birthday anniversary. Popular with young and old alike, she was the recipient of a large array of lovely presents. The gathering enjoyed a buffet supper. with Mrs. J. Webb and Mrs. Allan Duff pouring tea. Besides seven sons, she has two daughters. on 7 December 1946 at 134 Pine Street, Sudbury, Sudbury District, Ontario.2

Burial* She was buried at Park Lawn Cemetery, Sudbury, Sudbury District, Ontario.
