Anecdote* The EDWARDS family moved to Wilberforce Twp., Renfrew County about 1843 and in 1847 he wrote a petition for land in Wilberforce Twp.. Eventually he and his family owned about 600 acres in the Rankin area, and they are listed in the 1851 census of Wilberforce Twp. The only descendants of this EDWARDS family in the Wilberforce Twp. area are the children of one daughter who died very young. While one son and his wife lived and died in Wilberforce Twp., their three sons all went to Dakota Territory. Two daughters and two sons of Evan EDWARDS went to Dakota Territory with their families. Another son, Thomas EDWARDS, went to Carlow Twp., Hastings County, and although he spent some time in Dakota Territory, he did not settle there. Another daughter lived in North Bay.
